Hard Workers

The room was full of serious editing faces today, as the count down to our art show put us closer and closer.  Some of our young photographers finished their projects today, some have a little bit more editing to do.  Soon they will be printed and hung, ready for display.  We are so proud of the effort that Quinhagak's youth have been putting into these works of art.

Finishing and Titling

As we are taking and editing our final pictures, we are thinking of titles for the art show pieces.  Giving the photos titles helps to tell our stories.  Some of us found it hard to come up with titles, so we looked to our fellow young photographers for help.

Come One, Come All

We have been working away at our projects, getting ready for Saturday's Art Show.  We really hope that many people in the community come to support our young photographers and enjoy the beautiful pieces we are putting together.  Please pass the word around.

Preparing our show pieces

We have one week now to prepare our final photo stories for the art show this Saturday.  Topics have been chosen and pictures are being taken and edited.  The young photographers are pretending to be time travelers who are interested in looking at how some aspects of life have changed, stayed the same, or transformed around Quinhagak over time.  The young photographers have chosen their topic based on their interests such as; berry picking, toys, playing out, transportation, jewelry and so on.   To create their visual stories, the young photographers have been using their fellow photographers as models, the 3D printed models in their shots, and taking pictures of life around the village.

Young Artists' Thoughts

Since school lets out early on Fridays, we had extra time for photography today.  So among taking photos, editing photos, and thinking about our stories, a few young photographers took some time to write down their thoughts about our program...

My thought is that I learned a lot, and I hope that when I get older I can teach the other generation kids these thoughts that I've learned from a women who knows about all of these things. - Marita T.

I like this class because its fun and awesome. -Meghan Cleveland

My thought of this class is awesome because it is inspiring, this class taught me to take better photos, and edit photos with better tools. Also inspired me to become a photographer and take an enormous amount of photos to share. -Qakva Sydney Cleveland

This class was awesome but taking photos of the mountains were really amazing, especially taking photos of happy people and other people in the background, when people didn't know that they had their photo taken and say ''I didn't know you took my photo'' it turns out more prettier then you expected. - Tenaya Tunutmoak

GIMP

The final piece of photo editing software that we are learning about is called GIMP.  This is a free and open source software, which means that anyone can use it and edit it for free.  It can be complicated, so we learned just about a few of the things that it can do.  This software can crop and adjust color, just like Preview and iPhoto, but it can do a lot more.  We had fun playing with the filters, changing colors on the photos and erasing bits of people with the clone tool.

Our young photographers have started to bring the cameras home for the evening... being very responsible with them, keeping them safe, returning them the next day, and taking lots and lots of pictures.  Sydney Cleveland did an excellent job at that with a total of 118 photos!
